Always wanted to be a modern-day Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle? Have you ever read a mystery novel and knew you could come up with a better plot? Join Valerie Wilson Wesley as she shows you how it’s done in this murder mystery writing workshop. With insight from her own experiences in writing mystery novels, Valerie will discuss the crafting of character, setting and pace that are essential to writing a stand-out mystery novel or cozy.

Valerie Wilson Wesley is the author of A Glimmer of Death, the first book in a new cozy series published in January, 2021. She is also the author of the popular Tamara Hayle Mystery series as well as three stand-alone novels and two paranormal romances written under the pen name Savanna Welles. Her books for children include six books in the Willimena Rules! Series, The Afro-Bets Book of Black Heroes, which she co-wrote with Wade Hudson and the essay “Never Be Afraid to Soar” which is included in the critically acclaimed The Talk: Conversations About Race, Love and Truth, edited by Cheryl Wills Hudson and Wade Hudson. The Tamara Hayle mysteries and several of her novels have been published in Germany, France and the UK. She has also received best book for her novel Ain’t Nobody’s Business If I Do, from the American Library Black Caucus Association. She is a former executive editor of Essence magazine.
