Setting the Scene—Writing Riveting Worlds

$35.00Whether you are plunging into the past, exploring complex contemporary realities, or creating a futuristic, fantastic universe, the rules of your world need to be well-defined. In this 1.5-hour workshop, you’ll stroll down the rich avenues of your real or imagined society and create a firm setting for your characters and plot. By considering culture, beliefs, traditions, technology, social structures, and more, you will begin to build an immersive world for your readers.
Taught by Judith Lindbergh, founder/director of The Writers Circle (www.writerscircleworkshops.com). Her debut novel, The Thrall’s Tale, about women in Viking Age Greenland, was a Booksense (IndieBound) Pick, a Borders Original Voices Selection and praised by Pulitzer Prize winners Geraldine Brooks and Robert Olen Butler. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including Archaeology Magazine, Scandinavian Review, The World & I, the literary journal Other Voices, and most recently in UP HERE: The North at the Center of the World published by University of Washington Press. She also contributed to the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibition Vikings: TheNorse Atlantic Saga and was an expert commentator on the History Channel’s documentary series MANKIND: The Story of All of Us.
