The Montclair Literary Festival will celebrate its 10th Anniversary with a packed festival that runs from May 2-11, 2026, across venues throughout Montclair.

The 2026 festival will showcase an exciting lineup of marquee authors, thought-provoking panels, and engaging discussions. With the exception of some ticketed sessions, festival events are free.

Festival Days
Festival Day will be celebrated across two consecutive Saturdays:

May 2 in downtown Montclair
May 9 at Montclair State University

Both days will feature multiple events running simultaneously, complemented by evening programs throughout the week of May 4–11.

Festival Day Highlights
Current confirmed authors include Tom Perrotta, Colm Tóibín, Joyce Carol Oates, John Fugelsang, Maria Semple, Kathryn Stockett, Christina Baker Kline, Xochitl Gonzalez, Eugene Robinson, and many more. You can read more about the confirmed authors here.

Current planned panels will explore a wide range of themes, including artificial intelligence, extraordinary women in history, memoir, popular fiction, poetry, and debut authors. All details will be available on our website soon.

The Montclair Literary Festival was begun in 2017 and is a community-wide celebration of reading and ideas. Each year, the festival promotes literacy for all, encourages the exchange of diverse perspectives, and fosters meaningful connections between writers and readers.

Past panels have included true crime, socio-economic issues, the power of short stories and essays, cultural biographies, and politics. We are committed to reflecting the cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity of our community by welcoming authors from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.

Distinguished festival authors who we have hosted in the past include Colson Whitehead, Isabel Allende, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Jennifer Egan, Jon Meacham, Ann Napolitano, Elizabeth Alexander, Salman Rushdie, Imbolo Mbue, Malcolm Gladwell, Erik Larson, Scott Turow, Harlan Coben, Colum McCann, Nicholas Kristof, Patti Smith, Connie Chung, Trevor Noah, Paul Auster, Anna Quindlen, Thomas Friedman, Douglas Stuart, Emily St. John Mandel, Min Jin Lee, and many more. The Montclair Literary Festival is a program of Succeed2gether, a nonprofit dedicated to closing the educational equity gap in Montclair and Essex County by providing free, high-quality academic and enrichment programs to children in need.
