Poetry Slam & Short Story Contest

Find Your Voice!

Succeed2gether, presenter of the Montclair Literary Festival, will hold its 2nd annual high-energy evening of spoken-word poetry and short story contest awards on Thursday, March 15 from 6.30-9pm.

Poetry Slam

The slam will be open to all middle school and Montclair High School students.

Poetry Slam workshops will be held at the three Montclair middle schools and Montclair High School in late February/early March.

Middle School contacts are:

  • Buzz Aldrin – Ms. Thomas
  • Glenfield – Ms. Dominick
  • Renaissance – Mr. Garzon.

High school students should contact Ms. Rembert.

The Poetry Slam event will feature guest performances from M.C. Vincent Toro, Roger Sedarat, Tanya Manning-Yarde and Grisel Acosta.

Short Story Contest

Submissions are sought for the 2018 Montclair Short Story Contest with the following guidelines:

  • All Montclair High School students are invited to participate
  • Stories should not exceed 1500 words
  • A suggested but not required theme this year is “Finding Your Voice”
  • Stories should be submitted electronically to Mr. Woodruff at: gwoodruff@montclair.k12.nj.us
  • Deadline: Tuesday, February 20.

Winners will be announced at the Montclair Poetry Slam and Short Story Awards on March 15. Last year’s winning entries were published in the Montclair Local.
